History
The Uyo branch started in 2001 with the Free Your Mind show which captured such long-standing members of today as Edima. Among the pioneer members, whose actual number is unknown, were Vida, Idorenyin Mbang, Iboro Udofot, Onyekachi Onyekwere. Our spontaneous rehearsals started at an open space behind a Catholic church in the town campus of the University of Uyo. The venue for rehearsals was later moved to the Agric block in the Annex campus of same school.
It was a time when strength, dedication and resilience were put to the test at every rehearsal – characterized by humming, stamping feet, and no music (so most songs were learnt by heart) on a basketball court with no knee guards. The choreographies had to be thoroughly learnt without the advantage of video, like now. Each member was a walking archive of songs and choreography. Membership steadily grew to about 25 people. The year 2014, however, was particularly memorable as it was the reopening of the club after an unavoidable hiatus.
